On Wednesday, August 27th, the City of Plainview will have a special budget workshop that will be open to the public. Starting at 5:00 PM at the Community Center, the opportunity to voice and have input in next year's budget will be given. According to City Administrator Michael Holton, this is the most opportune time to participate in the democratic process in local government. "Nothing is more important during the course of the year than the decisions that are made during the local budget workshops. They set the tone for Plainview's future". It is encouraged to come with ideas and possible projects for the new fiscal year which starts October 2014.
The City of Plainview has picked Sunday, August 10th to close the pool for the summer season. With school starting on the 14th of August and the lifeguards going back to college, there is not enough personnel to keep it open beyond that date. The pool will also offer free doggy days on the 11th of August from 1-3 PM. This was started a couple of years ago and it has been a hit with the public. As usual, no aggressive dogs will be allowed into the pool
